Yuchun:
It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
Today is the first time in a long time that I’m going to release a Japanese single album, and I’m here to shoot the jacket for it. Since it’s a Japanese single. I’m happy and nervous, but I’ll do my best today, so please root for me.
Q: What has changed the most for you recently?
Y : I’ve been spending time with my family, which makes me feel warmer every day, or something like that.
Q: What have you started recently?
Y : Well, it’s impossible to go outside with Corona these days, isn’t it? So I go to my neighborhood and take photos.
Yes, I’ve been into taking photos these days. I’ve also been watching movies, listening to music, and barbecuing with my family.
Q Do you have any special athletic ability?
Y:Of course not. But recently, in my thirties, it’s become easier for me to maintain my condition and exert myself without sleep than before. I think it’s just a matter of age.
Q: When you look back on the past year, what was the most enjoyable moment?
Y: On my borther Yuhwan’s stream, whenever I hear and watch everyone so supportive, it really gives me strength.
I feel happiest when I feel that people are still waiting for me.
Q: Which (anime) character is similar to you?
Y : I’ve always liked Crayon Shin-chan the most.
When I look at Shin-chan, I feel like he’s a bit like me. He plays with that smile every day, but he has a little bit of loneliness in him. In addition I’ve always wanted to have a family like Shin-chan’s.
Q: Which idol group do you approve of the most among those currently active?
Y : Recently, when I watch documentaries about BTS, Black Pink, TWICE, and other artists who are working hard, I feel nostalgic and respectful when I see them practicing hard like I did when I was in a group. I respect them.
Q: What do you want to be like in a year?
Y : First of all, I’d like to be a little less stressed every day than I am now. I’d like to spend more time with a smile on my face, work harder and do more activities, and if I can do a tour in Japan, my goal is to do a national tour. I really want to do that.
Q: How is the atmosphere on the set today?
Y : At first I was really nervous because it’s been a long time since I’ve done a photo shoot, but now I’m shooting with an easy feeling. It’s nice and comfortable.
Q: Who do you talk to the most these days?
Y: I haven’t talked to anyone except my family lately (laugh). I’m not the type of person who calls a lot. My brother is the one I talk to the most.
Q: What is the title track of this album?
Y: I wrote the lyrics for a ballad song called “Aini”, which doesn’t mean “love”, but rather “going to meet you”, and it’s a mellow ballad.
Q: What did you want to say to your fans the most in the lyrics of this album?
Y: There is a sentence that says, “Don’t cry when I smile in front of you.” When I wrote the lyrics, I imagined that I would meet you at the airport when I came back to Japan after a long time, and I wanted to give you a smile when I saw you. If I meet you all after a long time, I probably won’t cry, but I imagine that I will be moved.
Q: How would you cope with the moment of the greatest crisis for you?
Y : I’ve been through a lot, haven’t I? I thought I’d like to try one more time, maybe the last time in my life, but I thought I’d like to try one last time. So I started the activity.
I can’t tell you who it was, but it’s been about 18 years since I debuted, and the people I’ve been working with for more than 10 years recently betrayed me.
That was the most shocking, sad, and difficult thing for me. Because since I was born and since my debut, the most important thing for me has been to interact with people. I’ve always thought that making friends with each and every staff member is more important than money, so being betrayed was even more shocking than what happened in 2016. I was crying all the time at home because I couldn’t tell this to my fans or my family, could I? Because if I told them, they would worry more. That’s why there was no one I could tell. So that was the hardest thing for me lately.
But then I met a really good staff members again, and I felt like I wanted to give it one more try, and now I have that opportunity, and I’m really happy about it.
Q: What is your own way of dealing with a crisis?
Y: You can never be prepared for such a method no matter how many times you prepare. I used to drink alone, drink all the time, drink again when I woke up, drink without eating anything, but I couldn’t even do that this time because I was so shocked.
I just cried and cried, and then in the end I started to see my fans, my family, my staff, and so on. That’s how I was able to bring out my strength again, I think.
Q: What made you happiest recently?
Y: In the past, I used to worry a lot about what my future would be like, and I used to feel gloomy, but recently I’ve become more positive, and I want to concentrate on my future activities and do my best with a smile. I’m most happy to be able to spend my days with a smile on my face.
Q: Where is the first place you want to visit when you go to Japan?
Y: There is a ramen shop called Marutomi that you know. I want to eat spicy miso ramen there. After that, I don’t mind doing nothing. I just want to walk around the streets of Japan, anywhere. I want to feel the atmosphere of Japan.
Q: Is there anything you want to say to your fans who have waited for you for so long?
Y: Yes, um, to all my fans, this is Yoochun. It’s been a long time. I didn’t think it would be so difficult to meet you all, but I’m back to the old Yuchun.
Thank you so much for supporting me and waiting for me. As I’ve been saying to you all, I really want to put out my best effort and do my best in Japan, and I will, so I’ll be doing my activities for longer than you’ve been waiting for me. Thank you very much for everything. Please continue to support Yuchun.
